Poleo is a wild mint gathered by the elders in the hills above the farmlands surrounding the city of Oaxaca. It is a brook mint, locally used as a cure for a hang over, and is a delicious tea, served  hot or iced. It is a good digestive, effective for altitude sickness, or just as a relaxing cup after a meal.
The locals toast the leaves and add them to black beans to make distinctive tostadas or “empoleadas”.

Poleo is a wild brook mint gathered by the village elders in the mountains in the Central Valleys of Oaxaca. It is used as aid for hangovers and is fondly called “la hierba de boracho”, the drunkards’ herb. It is also used to lessen the effects of altitude sickness and is a general food relaxation tea.


To Use:

Steep 2-3 Tablespoons of the tea leaves in boiled water for 5 minutes, remove leaves and drink hot or cold. Also use in desserts, infuse into syrups for cocktails or add to your black beans along with some of Seasons of My Heart Smoked Mole Paste (Chintestle) – a smoky and spicy chile paste
